Randy grew up in a house where his mother was a leader of a Dixieland band and he was exposed to swing and jazz music at an early age. Later Randy played in an electric bluegrass band and spent 10 years playing Americana and Irish fiddle tunes and mandolin. Playing acoustic and electric guitar , he opened concerts forJohn Hartford, Leo Kottke, Mickey Gilley, and Bobby Bare.
